ROBERT MARVIN'S VISION STATEMENT

Here are excerpts from Robert E. Marvin's Vision Statement:

"BIP is a very special place because the vision was to save a great Southern Plantation and not the typical goal of development When Sumner Pingree decided to develop BIP his dream was to preserve forever, 5,200 acres of South Carolina's Lowcountry Plantation Heritage. He wanted to find a way to save this beautiful land from the typical forms of development such as traditional resort style development of condo-culture, subdivided into small lots and sold, or timbering...

Sumner Pingree and I together hugged every tree and kissed every brick as we planned this community we all love...

At the creation of the project, the words Southern Plantation became the truth to which all design became subservient. This was repeated at the beginning of every meeting so that it did become the building beam for every step in the design process. The facilities and amenities of the Plantation were developed to resemble and emphasize this characteristic theme of the true Plantation lifestyle. Each design element from the dirt roads, to the fences, golf course, hunt club and equestrian center were all designed with the words Southern Plantation in mind. The goal was to make this place truthful and set it apart from typical development communities. We wanted to attract very special and unique families and we have done just that! ...

It is crucial that we keep in mind that the needs of this land come first and that we should continue to work and design within nature's guidelines. Remember that our vision has forever preserved some 4,800 acres of South Carolina Lowcountry for wildlife and nature. We are the stewards of this magnificent and historical Plantation. It is our duty to continue to love and protect what God has made available for us to enjoy."
